8 Emergency Apps You Need To Have On Your Phone

Day after day, companies develop new methods for you to learn about local and global catastrophes and disasters, remain in touch with those you care about, and get a better understanding of what it means to be prepared.  If tragedy hits, being prepared will help you fare better. It's critical to have nonperishable food, drinking water, battery-powered flashlights, and phone chargers or power banks on hand and other emergency preparedness supplies. The following list of programs are the best applications for preparing for, responding to, and recovering from the next disaster, whether it's a hurricane, earthquake, wildfire, or floods. Many of these Android and iOS applications may be used both online and offline to provide assistance during power outages or cell service disruptions.

1. Disaster Alert is a free smartphone app that gives people, families, and their loved ones the information they need to be safe anywhere in the world. Disaster AlertTM, built on PDC's DisasterAWARE® platform, provides near real-time information on 18 distinct types of hazardous disasters as they unfold throughout the world.

Disaster Alert allows you to configure early warning alerts, see situational analysis reports, and access modeled hazard consequences for selected hazards all from a single, simple map interface. The constant flow of new information in Disaster Alert is derived automatically from only scientifically validated sources. Alerts are updated when no authoritative source is available.

2. Natural Disaster Monitor (Android only): Natural disasters across the world may be tracked using the Global Disaster Alert and Coordination System - www.gdacs.org. The app displays the most recent natural catastrophes, such as earthquakes, droughts, volcanic eruptions, tropical cyclones, tsunamis, and floods, as color coded symbols in a list and on a Google Maps background; the icon colors represent the alert level - green, orange, and red. The symbol will become more translucent as the event gets older. By clicking on the item, you will be sent to a page with additional information about the tragedy. The map can alternatively display UTM or geographic grids.

3. The First Aid: American Red Cross apps provides essential, life-saving ideas and instructions to help you and others survive ordinary crises and natural catastrophes such as hurricanes, earthquakes, and tornadoes. The American Red Cross also provides a number of applications to assist you during various disasters, such as Tornado, Flood, and Hurricane.

4. The FEMA App sends out timely notifications and valuable information to keep you and your loved ones safe before, during, and after catastrophes. Receive and share real-time disaster, severe weather, and other emergency notifications for up to five locations throughout the country. This straightforward and user-friendly portal also offers safety advice, emergency planning suggestions, and catastrophe relief.

5. Zello is a walkie-talkie app that runs on your phone. Users can communicate with one another via brief audio messages. Zello assisted Venezuelans in communicating amid a period of political and economic upheaval in 2019. There are two choices available, one for personal usage in an emergency and one for work. Stripling loves the Zello app for two reasons: it allows emergency responders to connect fast and cheaply, and it allows community organizations to join simply.

6. Life360: Family Finder & GPS Tracker for Security. With complete safety features for life at home, on the web, and on the road — all in one location for extra value and convenience — protect and connect the people who matter most. Enjoy cutting-edge technologies that go beyond a simple GPS phone tracker.
