Seven Reasons To Filter Your Tap Water

To survive, we require water. Humans are composed up to two-thirds of water, which is bonded in our cell membranes. Water is more necessary than food; we can survive for up to a month without food, but only a week without water. This emphasizes the importance of drinking clean, pure water. Water that has not been treated, filtered, or purified can make you sick. Water filters and water filtration systems are examples of modern water technology. Filtered tap water is superior than both regular tap water and bottled water.

Tap water, for example, includes chlorine as a disinfectant. This kills bacteria and inhibits the spread of illnesses transported by pipes and possible contamination, but do you really need to drink that much of it after it's clean and out of your tap?  Around 80 percent of the tap water is said to be contaminated with over 300 pollutants, more than half of which were not regulated by the EPA. Add to that an ever-expanding list of new chemical compounds that enter the market almost every day, and the water is certain to become murkier over time. Furthermore, various contaminants might enter your drinking water in the area between the nearest water treatment plant and your home, particularly in emergency situations. Let's look at the advantages of water filtration and the use of water filters.

  1. Health: Water filtration systems are beneficial to your health. The advantages are tenfold, including reduction of fatigue, skin hydration, vitamin absorption, weight loss, detoxification, digestion, and a lower risk of cancer. Drinking clean water benefits the immune system and mental health function.

  2. Filters chemicals and more: Removes BPA/plastics, pathogens, heavy metals, pesticides and herbicides, chemical, anti-depressants, birth control pills and other pharmaceutical residues from the water supply.

  3. Better taste: Because contaminants are eliminated, filtering water improves its flavor and scent. After drinking filtered water, you'll notice a more refreshing and increased flavor, as well as a greater sense of contentment. Tap water has a chlorine flavor and odor, however distilled water has most of the minerals removed and hence tastes quite bland. Filtered water eliminates impurities while retaining the minerals that give water its flavor.

  4. Save money: Filtering tap water at home is more cost-effective in the long term for a variety of reasons. For starters, it saves you the cost of the bottles you would have purchased otherwise. You will stop spending money on expensive bottled water and you might save a lot of money in the long term. If you're always buying bottled water to avoid drinking tap water, a water filter might quickly pay for itself. Avoiding bottled water purchases might save you hundreds of dollars each year. Second, it saves you money on medical bills. Water salts and minerals build up in your body and can cause kidney stones, which require medical care.

  5. Water filters require low maintenance: Water filters are handy and simple to use. Water filtration products are long-lasting, portable, easy to replace for rapid filtering, and need little maintenance.

  6. Disaster preparedness: During emergencies, having access to a reliable water filter, would allow an individual to collect external water and filter it for portable home use.

  7. Environmental benefits: Even if you pick recyclable water bottles, there is still a cost and consequence to the recycling process. Plus, because all of that bottled water is carried across the nation to your local store, you're lowering your carbon impact as well. Use a water filter, decrease waste, and help the environment. Bottled water is a source of pollution since it takes over 3 centuries for the plastic bottle to disintegrate and a ton of water is wasted because it takes three times as much water to create the bottle as it does to fill the bottle. You can assist the environment by purifying tap water at your house or business.

What you should check for in a water filter and their types in a home:

  • Under-the-sink filters are ideal since they are stored away and out of sight while providing excellent filtering. However, the initial purchase price + cost per gallon might be slightly greater than the other choices, and installation is required.
  • Filters for sink faucets screw directly into the faucet. When the filter is not in use, they will have a pass-through that allows your sink to run freely. To obtain pure water, just activate the filter by flipping the switch. Your water flow will be channeled via the filter, resulting in wonderful filtered water. Because it is fed directly from your main water line, you will have an infinite capacity, allowing you to generate as much filtered water as you require.
  • Water pitchers are ideal for the space-constrained since they are portable, require no installation, fit comfortably in the fridge, and are readily accessible on nearly every street corner. They filter out some of the main pollutants, but not nearly as many as under-the-counter and counter-top models. While the initial investment is low, filters must be replaced on a regular basis, increasing the cost per gallon compared to alternative techniques.
  • Counter-top water filters employ water pressure to drive water through the filtering process, making water healthier and more palatable by eliminating more impurities than traditional pitcher systems. Counter-top systems require only a little hose and take up only couple inches of counter space.
  • Whole house water filters are the most costly and biggest form of water filter. They are several times the price of most other filters and are meant to cleanse all of your home's water. To that aim, they have flow rates ranging from 10-15 GPM to much greater. These are frequently multi-stage filtration systems capable of removing all significant contaminants. Many of these systems also function as water softeners, removing water stains. Whole-house filters connect to your home's mainline and may require expert installation.
  • Ultraviolet water filters are a type of water filtration device that works by exposing the water to ultra-violet light, which destroys bacteria, viruses, protozoa, and other microorganisms. They're usually tiny and light, and they operate on batteries. These are slightly more costly than other types of portable water filters. Unfortunately, they do nothing to remove sediment from your water, so they are not the ideal option for water that is high in solid particles.
  • In reverse osmosis systems water is forced through semi-permeable membrane filters. They remove all of the chemicals, pollutants, and particles, but they also remove vital minerals like magnesium and calcium. As a result, many reverse osmosis systems include an alkalization stage that balances the pH of the water and reintroduces vital minerals.
